Microsoft has announced that it will allow blogs censored in certain countries to still be readable in other countries where the censorship is not in place. The company has come underfire recently for helping enforce censorship in China.
The new policy applies to blogs published using Microsoft’s MSN Spaces service. In summer last year, Microsoft revealed that Chinese bloggers would see their blog closed down if they used words such as “freedom”, “demonstration” or “democracy.”
The new policy also includes the blog only being closed down when Microsoft receives a “legally binding notice” from the government in question, and the user being informed of their blog closure.
